Marine Facilities


Columbus Bay Marina: This project included the design layout of the facility, and structural design of reinforced concrete bulkhead sheet piles and piers. Site mapping and hydrographic surveys were also performed by AEI.

Frederiksted Pier

Hess Oil: Performed structural analysis of steel and reinforced concrete dock structures. Provided recommendations for reinforcing docks to provide higher load carrying capacity. Performed high precision geodetic surveys to determine latitudes and longitudes of channel navigational aids.

 

V.I. Port Authority: Designed repairs for the Frederiksted pier after hurricane storm damage. Designed and inspected the construction of the Frederiksted Tender Pier. Performed boundary, topographic and hydrographic surveys for the Gordon A. Finch molasses pier. Responsible for construction layout of bulkheads and detention ponds and quality control.

 

Salt River Marina: Antillean Engineers Inc. designed the master plan for the Salt River Marina located on the north shore of St. Croix. The work included the preparation of environmental assessment reports, design of piers and bulkheads, marina related buildings and facilities, and a sixty-unit condominium project.

 


 

Roads


The Company completed the design of the four-lane Melvin H. Evans Highway on St. Croix. The project included bridge structures, large box culverts, median barriers, paved shoulders, guard rails, electrical illumination and a vehicle detecting traffic control signal system. Design of this facility was performed completely in-house. Antillean Engineers provided the construction supervision, inspection and quality control services on the construction of two segments of the highway project. The firm owns all of the equipment and facilities required to perform tests on concrete, asphalt and compaction of soils. AEI has completed the resurvey of the alignment of the Christiansted By-Pass to provide property acquisition maps and data and assisted the FHWA engineers in the redesign of the proposed road. The company performed the design of several miles of sidewalks that have been constructed in rural areas on St, Croix. The firm has also completed the design of six signalized intersection improvements on St. Croix.

 


 

Water Supply


Antillean Engineers has designed water collection and distribution systems for several housing developments including the 250-unit Lorraine Village Apartments, the 52 unit Canebrake Townhouses, the Williams Delight and Adventure Hill housing complexes, Castle Burke and several large schools and subdivisions on St. Croix. These projects involved the hydraulic and structural design of large potable and non potable water cisterns, pumping stations, rainwater collection and potable and non potable water distribution piping and storm drainage systems. AEI completed the design of a large cistern and water distribution system for the St. Croix modular Hospital, which included an engine driven high capacity firewater pump. The firm has completed the design of about five miles of water distribution piping systems for VIWAPA.

 


 

Foundations
Foundations
AEI has designed reinforced concrete foundations for 175’ high marine navigational aid towers for Hess Oil Corporation. Antillean Engineers routinely designs foundations for structures such as large cisterns and multistory buildings. The firm designed the foundation structures for the multi purpose center of the St. Croix campus of the University of the Virgin Islands, the Arthur A. Richards Junior High School, Fredensborg Junior High School and for several large apartment developments. The firm was responsible for the civil and structural design of the St. Croix District Court building and Chase Bank.


 


 

Airports
Henry Rohlsen Airport
Extensive airport planning and design experience has been gained by Antillean Engineers through its work with the Virgin Islands Port Authority in St. Thomas and St. Croix. The company is fully conversant with FAA airport design requirements and has provided technical assistance to the Virgin Islands Port Authority for the Henry E. Rohlsen Airport runway strengthening and drainage improvements. The company has performed the topographic mapping for the Henry E. Rohlsen Airport expansion and has completed work on the design of new jet aprons and the realignment of the Airport road. AEI is currently performing layout work and quality control testing for the airport runway and apron extensions.

 

 


 

Subdivisions

Mt Pleasant Subdivision Phase I
AEI completed the planning, layout and design of all utilities and services for the 106-unit Golden Grove Mobile Home Park in St. Croix. This included the design of cisterns, water pumping and distribution, sewage collection and underground electrical distribution systems.
Subdivisions


The company was responsible for the planning, survey and design of one of the largest (315 acres) and most complex subdivisions ever completed in St. Croix at Estates Bugby Hole-Springarden. Antillean has designed other large subdivisions such as Estate Solitude, Enfield Green, portions of Estate Recovery/Welcome, Herman Hill and many others. AEI staked out and supervised the cutting of roads and driveway entrances for these subdivisions.

 


 

Buildings

Buildings
Antillean Engineers has provided consulting civil and structural engineering services to local engineers and architects on several buildings including the U.V.I. Library, Good Hope Villas, Lorraine Village Apartments, Croixville Housing, Canebreak Townhouses, several public and private schools, a rental car office building and maintenance facility and the Port Authority’s Frederiksted Dock Office Building. The company was also responsible for final design and working drawings for the St. George Village Botanical Garden building. The company performed the boundary and topographic survey and civil and structural design of the St. Croix Federal Office Building.

Antillean Engineers has assisted an architectural firm by preparing working drawings for a 90-room hotel planned for downtown Christiansted, St. Croix. Responsibility for structural, mechanical and electrical design rests entirely with Antillean. The company has also provided surveying and civil design services for the proposed eight-story Sunny Isle Hotel.

 


 

Sanitary Engineering


The company has had extensive experience in the design of sewage treatment plants, including tertiary treatment units from which the effluent is recycled for flushing and grounds watering. In addition, the company routinely designs sewage collection systems and lift stations. Our most recent projects include the design of sewer mains and laterals for the William’s Delight community, the Figtree pressure main and the new Educational Complex in Estate Castle Burke.

 


 

Construction Supervision and Inspection

Construction site management
Antillean Engineers provides services that include detailed cost analysis, contract negotiation, progress payment analysis and construction supervision. Construction inspection services including testing and quality control services were provided by the company for the recently completed segments of the Melvin H. Evans Highway, Watergut Homes re roofing, the St. Croix Hospital and the Fredensborg Junior High School. The company has provided inspection services under contract to Camp Dresser & McKee for the construction of the St. Thomas and St. Croix interceptor lines.


Antillean Engineers provided construction management and inspection services for the Williams Delight sewage collection system and lift station and water distribution systems.
